In 1963 after my family had moved to Lerwick I spent my summer holidays working in Shetland Seafood’s Crab Factory.

I left home about 7.30am every morning to walk to the factory and on the way saw lots of men and women all making their way to the various fish factories and curing yards in town.

Their cheery greetings, comments and jokes and the lovely smell of kippers that hung over the whole town are memories that will remain with me forever.
